How far can a single person push themselves?

The questions of what humans were capable of had always been prevalent in those who tested those boundaries. The idea that there was a peak, regardless of whether or not it was uniform or unique per person, there was still that wonder. Was there a specific level that someone could reach where that would be it? Would there be a peak in which there was no climbing over, no matter how much the person struggled? Such thoughts were likely nothing but mild arrogance from someone who still stood at the base of their mountain, but it had been these very thoughts that drove him to getting stronger. His mother posed these questions to him during his start into serious training, and so it seemed only fitting that the thoughts reentered his mind every time he began working towards growth once more. A daily occurrence that always seemed to allow him to traverse new ground, yet always rounded back to the same place.

Truth of the matter was that there was no way to know for sure, not from the bottom of the mountain. When you looked up and the climb was shrouded in clouds, how could you speculate what lay beyond them? There was only one way to find out the answer to that question, and that was to chase the answer himself. To put himself to the dirt, the sand, the mud. To push out the blood and sweat required to drive past the walls that were in front of him.

Are they self imposed, or natural?

His knuckles were white, the weight of his body pressing upon his palms causing pressure to his joints. His elbows bent, pectorals and shoulders contracting to drop his arms to a ninety degree angle before expanding out again, pushing his body back up. The pattern repeated itself, as it had countless times before, and continued forward in numberless silence. He had not been keeping count, nor was he moving towards a specific number. His mentality on it was rather simple. He would work until he felt like he couldn't work anymore, and then he'd begin to count. Until then, it wasn't actually progress. It was a warm up.

As his muscles slowly tired, the feeling of his muscles stretching and beginning to twinge as they fought tearing. He slowed his pace, continuing the motions as slowly as he could to really put his muscles through the pain of this warm up. He had not chosen to switch up quite yet, instead maintaining this slow and methodical pace of working for a few repetitions. As he finished what he had arbitrarily decided to end at, he shifted to his knee and then stood up tall. Stretching his arms and turning his back into the stretch, he stared blankly at the area before him. This was the time where one could see him to understand Tenshi in a new light.

His body language still exuded confidence, but there was something different about it. It was as tough he had absolutely no acknowledgement of the world outside of what he needed to. As he felt his back stretching out along with his arms, he began a mental checklist of the exercises that he had already cycled through. He had started this day out with a run, which unlike his other exercises he took track of. A two mile run, which warmed up almost every muscle in his body and had begun forming some sweat upon his body. After that he had done a solid group of exercises to try and jump around to multiple muscle groups. Squats, sit ups, lunges, and planks. His most recent, the push ups, had lead him to his next workout.

Can you defeat yourself?

Stepping over to a nearby bar, Tenshi reached his arms up and grasped it an even length apart. His arms were slightly inside where his shoulders were, and almost as soon as he grasped the bar he lifted his legs and bent them. His elbows never fully extended, and as he began and completed his first complete pull up, he immediately hit his stride. Getting a gentle rock in his body as he pushed himself forward, his eyes stared at the empty area ahead of him. He was here far beyond what any of the students had been, though that was not to say that he was pushing himself harder than all other students.

He was pushing himself to his current limit, which would obviously be different for him than it would be for others. There was no reason to assume that he was better or worse than anyone else. Being a senior, he had more years than the freshmen and the sophomores who had only just begun taking the intense curriculum of Rising Wolf. Being in the family he was, he also had a lot more real life experience than others could boast. This caused his threshold to be higher than many others, but that didn't necessarily mean anything. Some people simply had more talent than he did, and some people would work harder or smarter than he would. He had to compensate for his by pressing as hard as he could in every aspect. He had to work hard, work smart, be determined, and capitalize on his talents as well as he could. He had to learn as much about himself to understand how best to do that, and he had to make friends at all levels in order to capitalize on what they'd be willing to offer him in terms of advice. He was not so cocky as to assume that no one else would be able to help him, or to think he was the best. He was, however, confident enough to know that the only way he'd ever become the best was to use everything he possibly could at his disposal. He'd continue forward, beating himself along the way at every step.

One after another, the pull ups mounted into a sizable amount. He had passed the single digits a while ago, and his muscles had already been screaming from previous exercises. Many people believed that pull ups were specifically requiring of the arms, though that couldn't be further from the truth. Depending on the type of pull up someone was doing, the exercise would be targeting multiple muscle groups simultaneously. His core, his back both upper and lower, his pectorals and his shoulders, his neck. It was a full body exercise disguised as something extremely specified, and it was something that he tired out on very quickly in relation to the other exercises. As he reached the uncounted and unimportant number in which he was now certainly feeling his muscles start to tear, he dropped from the bar and bounced on his feet. The sudden jarring of his muscles and skin caused an irritating feeling, a wince and grimace forming on his face for the smallest of moments. It was not actual pain, but more like a soreness that spanned his entire body. It was something that brought with it joy, despite being a relatively painful feeling. The fact that he could feel that soreness well up within his body and pull at him, making each movement take more deliberation and intent, meant that his workout was most certainly working. He had done more than enough to warm up his entire body and to begin building muscle, but bulking up was not one his mind. Who cared about gains, bro?

No, what he was worried about was what came next. Dropping his arms to he side, Tenshi began to slowly approach the center of the room. This was a massive facility, but there were multiple rooms set up within it. Where he was now was an area usually reserved for seniors or students who had come with a teacher, previously reserved for a specific training or practice. He had simply walked in though, after having found it empty and available. As he walked, he began to roll his shoulders and stretch out his muscles. Every fiber in his body yearned for a break, but his mind pushed against it. It was now that he felt like his body wanted to rest that the true progress could be made. Having reached the center of the room, and feeling as if his upper body had been stretched enough, he began to stretch out his lower body. He was a believer that stretching was only required for those who adapt lifestyles that cause their muscles to tense up and to lose their edge. For him, however, such a thing rarely happened if at all. He was only stretching now due to having pushed his body so hard, he wanted to make sure that his muscles had not begun to tighten up and try to heal. Once his stretching was done, he exhaled and smiled. It was now time for him to shadow fight with the mental images in his mind of warriors once faced.

As Tenshi reached the approximate center of the room, his eyes had found themselves closed. Within his mind, the darkness began to fill itself with colors and wisps of artificial life. This was not a technique using chi, nor was it a technique that would ever take physical form. It was done to allow for the young man to form a mental image of a past opponent, someone who had caused him difficulty or someone whose latent abilities had proven to be able to be scaled to a position of difficulty. As his mind raced for a suitable opponent, a grin slowly etched itself along his lips. It was the ultimate opponent, and someone who would always come back to him it seemed. As the wisps of light within his mind formed, his eyes remained closed as his left leg slid back, arms raising to form a fighting stance. During this transition, his eyes remained shut as the mental image was formed of his opponent. Her hair was dark, eyes to match, and her skin was fair. She looked at him in silence, unable to speak as he had long forgotten the exact sound of her voice. As he stood there, eyes closed and grin upon his face, he dropped into a deep bow. The mental image reciprocated, though her movement was much more shallow as she did so. "Hello, Mother." His words were quiet, hardly audible even to himself. They did not need to be loud for an imagined being to hear him.

As he stood back tall, he reformed the stance he had taken on before the bow. No sooner had he prepared to move to fight this mental clone of his mother had he stopped, the mental image he had made puffing away as if it were never there. His muscles had not yet begun to stiffen, his constant movement and exercise actually having served to loosen him up perfectly. The image had disappeared due to the sudden and jarring noise coming from the front door, a single room away. Looking towards where the front door was, he knew that it was only a matter of seconds before whoever had entered the building would make their way to this massive training room in which Tenshi was in. After all, there was only one room that was currently marked in use. While there was a chance that his assumption on this stranger was wrong, he imagined being in their shoes. If you go to train, you want to train with someone else more often than not. The pressure of another was amazing motivation to push oneself harder. Along with that, the name on the door would read Tenshi Modoru. There were very few people in the school who did not know that name, the name of the Student Council President himself. Many wished to get to know what sort of student led their school, and many others wished to see exactly what he was made of.

PostSubject: Re: Go Beyond (Private/Training)   Fri Jun 23, 2017 6:07 pm

It was hard for Jasmine to get her bearings in this new area, the lack of cold felt jarring in all honesty and the looks that she got for her particular set of clothing made her feel like she was more of a standout than she had originally thought she would be. She had only arrived a few days ago, having received the message from her grandfather that there would be a contact here in Focus City and assumed that she would have met up with the person by now, but it seemed that the contact was either laying low or not ready to divulge in the necessary information for her operation. She would audibly sigh at this, her lithe body resting against a dark brown oak park bench sitting just outside the training facility. Her cell phone rested in her delicate yet deceptively strong right hand as her slim fingers tapped away at the translucent screen. She visibly yearned for some entertainment or growth, but it seemed it would evade her for now.

Sighing once again, she figured she would at least check out the training facilities provided. She was certain there was no one using them, considering the school year hadn't begun yet, but that didn't stop her from looking about to stake her claim on a good room to work her moves in. The building itself was fairly large, stark white and blue hallways towered overhead, her small frame feeling absolutely minuscule in terms of sheer scale, but she understood why. Rising Wolf was an acclaimed academy and the fact that they could afford such extravagance only spoke volumes to the quality of fighters that it produced within these hallowed halls. There was a low organ sound in the distance, likely an ambient noise to provide those training or meditating a steady dissonant beat that they could work with without distraction from their peers. It oddly enough masked the sounds coming from any of the rooms that she passed, however it did not cloud the view that the translucent glass doors provided into each of them. As she expected, the training facility was mostly empty aside from one room in particular.

The young male vaguely near the center, though it was obvious that he had started at the center of the room. The slight look of sweat coming from his body let the young woman know that he had been working on his body before reaching the current state he was in, and from the looks of things he was at least vaguely aware of his own ability. This brought a small look of appreciation to her face, of course she could always appreciate the ability of other fighters, especially those who worked hard to improve themselves. There was nothing worse than someone who was weak that had grown complacent in their own ability.

Figuring that she would introduce herself, she slid her hand into the handle of the door before sliding it past the latch that kept it closed. The audible hissing sound of the door being opened could be heard into the room so she was not surprised when he stopped his movements and faced towards the door. Putting on a pleasant smile she would step into the room to reveal herself, her small frame clad in a simple one piece body suit. It hid her female frame fairly well considering it was skin tight. She had left the hood down for today since the warmth outside had been enough to cause her to sweat if only a bit, her body temperature never truly acclimated to the changes in temperature that other locales had. She still preferred the colder more northern climates to these sub tropical ones, even if they had rather nice winters.

Nodding softly to the male, she would slide the door shut behind her without turning around. She wouldn't address him just yet, choosing instead to observe and move over to the nearby exercise equipment he had been using only moments earlier before she had arrived. Stopping by the multipurpose exercise station, she would begin to roll her shoulders and relax her body, extending out her form into various positions to stretch out her aching muscles from sitting in all manners of rest that weren't truly good for her form. She honestly dreaded the day that she would begin to grow breasts, with her posture now she would only give herself migraines from the pain. Chuckling at this, she would continue to stretch herself out quietly, leaving the boy to continue his own exercises as if she had never arrived at all.

As the door hissed, letting the cooler air from the outside mingle with the warm air from inside the room, the one who entered was a young woman. She appeared to be younger than him, though physical forms tended to be deceptive for those who trained their body and chi enough. He remembered some elders he had once met, appearing to be in their sixties, whose ages spanned into the hundreds. While he doubted such a girl would be found in the training facilities of a high school, no matter how pristine and famous it may be, he still didn't doubt that this girl had skills of her own. In Rising Wolf, despite the rising demand for those who could utilize their brains in research and their skills in sports, there was still an underlying minimum of martial capability. If she was here, it meant that she had been brought here because whatever her other skills were, they supplemented her talent for combat. Turning his body to match his gaze, his full attention was now to the girl as she began to stretch out, quiet either out of respect or shyness. His breath was above its normal pace, though only slightly. Deep breaths through his nose were exhaled through his mouth, a paced and steady rhythm that ensured enough oxygen was delivered throughout his body. His heart was beating quicker to compensate for the heightened demand, and the young Student Council President was definitely warmed up for whatever was to come.

After staring at her for a few minutes, his face still blank from the training exercises, a grin graced his features as he nodded his head an acknowledgement. "Hello," he said in a normal conversational tone. The door that had opened to allow her and the slightly cooler air to enter the room had closed, leaving them in a locked space once more. The stilling air allowed his words to travel over to her, losing hardly any of their noise, and thus ensuring that she could hear him with no difficulties.

How one stretched spoke wonders of their knowledge if not their capabilities. She was stretching her limbs before working into stretching her core, ensuring that she could get more out of the overall stretch. It spoke of a person who knew how to utilize their body, though stretching properly didn't necessarily mean that they knew anything beyond that. If so, every yogi in Californa would be a master and the feisty state would have solidified itself as the worlds center for growth. What it did state, however, was that she was willing to partake in training with him. At the very least it damn sure seemed as if it did. An alternative reason for someone to enter the only occupied training facility where someone was obviously mid way through their training, only to begin stretching while eyeing him from a distance, seemed like a far-fetched idea at best.

"Welcome to my humble abode. I didn't realize I had any guests coming, else I would have prepared some drinks." His words were laced with sarcasm, but in no way were they menacing. Grinning as he motioned with his head for her to come closer, he continued eyeing the stranger. "You've caught me near the end of my workout, and seeing as how you've let yourself in I hope that means you're willing to help me finish up?" If she didn't understand the gist of what he was inviting her to do than there would be no way possible to ensure that she could understand him. To almost anybody at all they would understand that he was inviting them to spar, and he could only assume she'd pick up on it. If she didn't, he would immediately reword it to "Spar with me." A command without any such tone. Regardless of the path she took, he would form himself into his fighting stance. Body slightly tilted so his left side led, his left foot angled and his right foot straight. He bounced upon his toes, his leading arm held low and bent at the elbow to cross over his stomach as his right arm stayed high, bent to cross his forearm over his chest and keep his fist about eight inches in front of his chin. It was an odd stance without a doubt. A cross between boxing, muay thai, and kick boxing with potential influence from several others. He'd let her choose her starting distance, as she'd likely be the one initiating this fight sparring match.

Her extremities would scream out in release, the slight tenseness of a heightened sense of blood pressure after a set of rather taxing movements that followed any stretch would lull her into a sense of lethargy. Of course it wouldn't last for long, the euphoric feeling was only to convey that her body has essentially released its pent up tension and thus was more accepting of any other exercise she would put it through. It was a short bit of reprieve however as the young man that had already occupied the space had finally decided to speak up and use his voice. He would address her with a simple hello. There wasn't much she could gleam from that and nor would she pretend too, it was a simple courteous gesture if any and attempting to look beneath it would only waste energy. She would respond in kind with her own hello, disguising her accent behind that of a typical inner city youth of the nation that the school resided in. It wasn't too hard to do due to the lack of nasal tonal inflections aside from a few slang words that they would use from time to time. It would be said in a way that made her seem at least accepting to his presence, more friendly than hostile.

She would continue to eye him with an observant eye as she moved down onto the floor to lay flat on her back, beginning her own exercises for the morning as she hadn't done so yet today. Her first exercise would be the simple base form of the crunch. She would ease into it by raising her legs and feet off the ground before bending them at the knees to keep them locked in place. Holding them there, she would then lock her arms behind her head as she lifted her core towards the raised knee caps, forehead leading the way as she eased into the exercise and worked herself up into a suitable pace. It would only take a few moments before she would finally begin to feel any sort of burn, the numbered amount somewhere in the low thirties. While she was what many considered in prime physical form, she still was a rather frail young girl and thus it didn't take long for her to get worked up in any sort of way. It would seem by then the young man would have seen enough as he finally felt the need to address her again, idly this time with a bit of a joke behind the statement. She ignored it in favor of maintaining concentration over her exercise as she worked her core. By then she would have switched to a more advanced form, cycling her knees as if she were riding a bike while alternating the side in which lead the rising of her body before touching her extended elbows to the opposite corresponding retracting kneecap. It was a light tap each time, but it signaled one half a cycle and as she built up her pace again it seemed the boy would address her once again and this time would ask her to help him with his work out.

She wouldn't answer for awhile, keeping the exercise going if only for a minute or two after he asked, oddly enough he felt the need to restate himself in the absence of her answer, something she was sure he didn't need to do. Maybe he was the type to enjoy the sound of his own voice? Either way, she would finally relax herself from her work out. She would ease herself slowly out of the stance, ensuring that she would get the maximum amount of gain out of each movement and thus promoting more necessary lactic acid to flow through her veins signalling that her exercise had bore fruit. Unlike the young man, she didn't exercise to warm up but rather to exercise. Practicing for the sake of practice had been something she hadn't done in far too long and as such ironically enough, she had fallen out of practice doing. That wasn't too say she had let herself grow rusty with her fighting skills, but she didn't maintain her kata's like her grandfather had no doubt requested she do.

Returning to a sitting form, she would cross her legs beneath her knees so that she could look at the young man indifferently. She noticed that he had already brought himself into a rather respectable fighting stance, it mixed a few styles that she could pinpoint from at least three different geographic regions. He was a well versed young fellow nonetheless, that was good. Smiling at him, she regarded her choices. She could either continue her exercises, and possibly get attacked, something that was highly unlikely as he didn't seem the type to strike someone out of spite. Or she could humor him and at least gauge the average skill level of the school she was supposed to infiltrate. It seemed like the choice was obvious if you asked her.

She'd nod softly before unfurling her legs, rising up to her feet quickly enough before shaking out her limbs. She wouldn't take a stance immediately, instead regarding his own once more before figuring which one she would need. It seemed he was the straight forward type, with his larger size, he would be able to strike at her far more efficiently than she would him. She would have to play this defensively to test just how good he was at striking from a distance. A test like this could easily be lost at long range, but she could tell that he was not someone who would let her get into close range where her strikes would be most effective. Nodding at this, she would slide her right foot back a few inches, gaining a stable balance as it maintained a solid shoulder width apart from her forward left fist. She would bring both arms up and away from her chest, with her fists curled inwards at chin level. She would form a soft Chinese boxing stance. It would be accompanied by a light sway as she steadied her rhythm and waited for him to engage her. Time to see how truly rusty she had become.

Tenshi maintained his fighting stance, unmoving and unbending as she went through her own exercises. As she went through the motions, taking her time, he continued his stance. Her decision to stretch out before striking any fighting stance only proved that she planned on fighting all the more. It was necessary for him to utilize his blatant advantages of size and weight while she maneuvered herself from her stretches to her fighting stance. He didn't recognize the stance she took specifically, but rather the strengths that it seemed to give her. The movement on sturdy feet, allowing for powerful strikes and a mobile upper body. Something akin to boxing most likely, though it didn't seem proficient on counter striking. As she finally struck this form, he decided to act. No sooner had she settled into this movement than began to step forward, rocking with each step to keep his body dancing like that of a reared back cobra.

As the distance closed to about two meters, he slowed his advance. The girl who was before him was immensely shorter than him, effecting everything from her reach to her weight, and it was debatable whether or not it would effect her power. With the distance now two meters and his advanced slowed to the point of stagnation, he retook his bouncing form and reaffirmed his own stance before wondering what to do first, assuming she hadn't already made the first strike.

As he rocked, the distance between them was whittled down from two meters to one, and once he reached the one meter mark he wasted absolutely no time. Sliding his leading left foot inwards ever so slightly and planting it, he sent a leg kick to her own leading limb. The goal was to get in a quick strike, causing a small amount of damage that could be build up over time and utilized to force her to be off balance in the future. It was a basic mixed martial arts technique, found over several styles and considered a necessity in those sorts of fights. While this was not at all the method he would be using if it had been a real fight, this was not a real fight. It wasn't something that was suppose to test their abilities and push them to the brink. It was suppose to sand away the dust, allow them a good way to stretch themselves, and allow them to hone their mastery of their own bodies.

Upon completion of his kick, he'd immediately whip the leg back and retake his stance upon it connecting. If it missed, he'd do a quick spin to land the leg as a rear leg again, as the movement it would take for the much shorter girl to dodge the kick that was aimed at just above her knee would not allow her the room to immediately counter, thus giving him plenty of time to replace it. Regardless, it was simply a training exercise.

Thirty Minutes Later

Tenshi stood, bruised and slightly bloody. His stomach held some minor bruising, his left arm with bruised bone and cut forearm flesh. His lip was bloodied, shirt torn, and his legs were sore from a mixture of his earlier workout and the plentiful kicks she delivered whenever he had stepped to close. While he was in this shape, she was no better. Her damage was more focused upon her upper body, due to their difference in height and his ability to land those hits easier. Still, her attention to detail to throw counters had been second to none. He hadn't expected this from a freshman. While he had certainly not been fighting all out, avoiding any sort of lethal blows or vital areas, she had been doing the same. It was impossible to tell where they both stood in skill as it stood, or who would win an actual fight. However, he had gained a respect for her.

Sighing as he broke his fighting stance, staring at the girl five meters away now, he started walking past her. As he reached her and was next to her, he stopped facing the opposite way. "I am Tenshi Modoru, Student Council President." He didn't ask for her own, assuming she would give it if she wished. Upon waiting a few seconds, or receiving an answer, he'd offer a light chuckle. "It was a pleasure meeting you. I hope to hear from you again soon." And with that, he made he way away from the area.
